Late Fall/Winter Tree & Shrub Pruning

Late Season Pruning

  • Do you have plantings that have outgrown their space?

  • Are they misshapen by prior damage, deer browsing, insect, and/or disease infestation?

  • Are your foundation plantings now covering your first (or even second) floor windows?

  • Are your walkways now a tunnel through overgrown plantings?

  • Do you have invasive vines growing through your plantings, choking them off, and making them look like alien beings?

The late fall/winter season is an excellent time to reduce the size of overgrown plantings and remove invasive vines for several reasons*:

  • Lack of foliage reveals branching structure.

  • Cooler weather reduces chance of insect/disease infestation of fresh cuts.

  • Heavily pruned plants can seal pruning cuts and recover rapidly in the spring.

We can help bring ornamental trees & shrubs back to their proper shape and size, and get rid of alien invaders!

* It is important to note that this is NOT the time for routine hedge trimming and light pruning of many spring flowering trees and shrubs. That should be done in the summer, after flowering and the flush of spring growth has finished. We can do this at the appropriate time.
